Exhibition plan for, "Applying 3D rendering and glass sculpture techniques to representing microbotany," an artistic and scientific collaboration between Julie D. Carrasco, Timothy J. Gallaher, PhD, and Caroline A.E. Stromberg, PhD.

Phytoliths, plant opal, are microscopic silica bodies naturally deposited and preserved in the shapes of plant cells, their surrounding area and tissues. One of their functions is thought to be that they offer structural stability to plants. We have designed a series of vertical glass sculpture assemblages to highlight the natural, "infilling," or, "casting," process and structural intricacies of phytoliths, true to their elemental composition. This is a schematic of our gallery exhibition, where we will provide a larger-than-life view of a microscopic world.

In its final form, the installation will be on display for public viewing. For the opening, this exhibition will include an artist and scientist talk.
